BIOGRAPHY
Łukasz Wodyński (born 1985 in Bydgoszcz – Poland) – multimedia visual artist, performer and art theorist.
A graduate of the State High School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the NICOLAUS COPERNICUS UNIVERSITY in Toruń. Diploma with honors degree in prof. Piotr Klugowski’s atelier in 2010. Co-founder of the Foundation for Development and Creative Activity “Les Artes”. Member of The Association of Polish Artists & Designers. He comes from a family with strong artistic roots, in which the following were particularly distinguished:
Józef Wodyński (1884 – 1947) – polish stage designer and painter, J. Stanisławski, J. Fałat and J. Mehoffer student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow
Jan Wodyński (1903 – 1988) – polish colourist painter, illustrator
In his work, Wodyński combines classic workshop facilities with courage in the field of aesthetic experiments. His actions are sometimes considered controversial due to the way they are depicted. The artist fluently moves between a wide spectrum of techniques and materials, working alternately in drawing, painting, sculpture, as well as new media techniques, performance and installation.
The artist’s work can be described as post-humanistic symbolism. Through the visual language, the artist looks for analogies and connections between the real world, technology and spirituality. His works oscillate around topics related to the psychological and existential aspect of man, his nature, emotions and relations with the environment. Strong accents in the artist’s works are references to transhumanist and posthumanist trends and their impact on the digital civilization. Through the interdisciplinary nature of his projects, the artist also examines perception reactions resulting from the level of stimuli flowing through the recipient’s body. He draws attention to what is happening between the planes of the work, interpreting emotionality as an individual ability to perceive an individual intellectually and spiritually. The body in the artist’s works plays the role of a symbol, it characterizes the uniqueness of a single being.
In the way of presenting, the artist clearly takes from the currents of figuration, neofiguration and baroque art (glazing – a technique of multi-layered painting, tenebrism or luminism). In performative actions, he reaches for expressionism, action paining or Viennese actionism.
A separate section of the artist’s work deals with the scope of theoretical works, which is an analysis of the process of creation itself, the impact of art on the human body, its life energy and the way to self-discovery.
